When United Home Entertainment, India’s largest television, animation and film content provider, decided to launch India’s
only Hindi language kids channel, they turned
to TAG to brand the channel.
Hungama means “Have a ball” in Hindi
and the channel challenged TAG to express this idea while creating
a sophisticated yet fun playspace that would set it apart from imported
kids channels. To create a sense of play with the logo, the “H” of
Hungama forms an animated character that can interact with the channel. Distinctive
designs for various blocks of programming helped partition the day
to appeal to Kids ranging in age from 4 to 14. An
animated dimensional grid system using rich
saturated colors was also designed to allow
a lot of variety while maintaining strong consistency
throughout the channel.
A critical and financial success, the network was sold by its parent company, UTV, in 2006 to the Walt Disney Company.
