Successful Thematic Channel Gets Dose of Reality

ZoneVision, based in the UK, is known as one of the most successful worldwide
distributors of thematic channels. Reality TV is their premier special interest
channel featuring a broad array of reality programming that is seen by over
27 million subscribers on five continents.
Focus groups were conducted by ZoneVision to help us determine the attributes
that attract the reality viewer. The objective of this project was to
tap into the emotions and “sense of the unexpected” that viewers feel when
viewing reality programming while at the same time appealing to a multi-national
audience. Bold yellow and black chevrons became the primary element that helped
create a sense of urgency in the design of this channel. Jarring on-camera
viewer reactions were shot and integrated into powerful footage seen in some
of Reality TV’s programming to further enhance the on-air identity.
The result was an identity and promo package that allowed for easy versioning
in multiple languages while maintaining an aggressive, urgent image for this
highly popular international channel.
